In English European Organization for Nuclear Research, commonly known by the acronym CERN, is the largest laboratory in the world of physics particles. It is located on the border between Switzerland and France in the western suburbs of the city of Geneva. The convention establishing CERN was signed on September 29, 1954 from 12 states. Today, the 20 member states plus some observers, including non-European states.
CERN's main purpose is to provide researchers with the tools needed for research in high energy physics. These are mainly particle accelerators, which lead nuclei and subnuclear particles to very high energies, and detectors that allow you to view the products of the collisions of beams of these particles. At energies sufficiently high, the products of these reactions may be radically different from the original constituents of the beams, and several times have been discovered and produced in this manner hitherto unknown particles.
A some numbers: On the outskirts of Geneva's CERN, the largest scientific laboratory in the world. He has more than fifty years, we work seven thousand scientists, is financed by twenty European countries and Italy holds a hundred and fifty billion a year under the financial assistance.
The Case :
Under the laboratory's accelerator ring of twenty-seven miles in This ring experiments to study the origin of matter. Started operating a particle accelerator called the LHC: it consists in ushering in a frontal collision at high energy, never experienced before. It was precisely these extreme conditions that have allowed him to venture into the unknown.
